The Building Process with Paragon Building Company

Your home-building journey begins with choosing where you’d like to build—either at one of Paragon’s sites at Hawk Hollow or on your own lot. To start, reach out to a member of our sales team to ask initial questions and gather basic information to determine if Paragon is the right fit for your new home.

Once you’ve connected with our team, we will schedule a meeting with Mike at a lot, a Paragon construction site, or a Spec Home (if one is available). During this meeting, we’ll discuss house plans, our standard building package, any upgrades you already have in mind, pricing, contract details, and bylaws (if applicable). This is also a great opportunity to address any questions you may have.

If you decide to move forward, our architect will begin working on drawings (if not already completed), and we will review and send contracts for signing. A non-refundable deposit is required upon signing. After that, we’ll schedule a two-hour meeting at our design showroom in Owosso, where you’ll make your selections. Any changes after this point will be documented through change orders, with costs due at the time of the request. Updated accounting records will be available for review with each change order.

Throughout the construction process, we will keep you informed with regular updates and photos. Occasionally, quick meetings at the site may be scheduled for you to connect with Mike and discuss your home’s progress. However, for safety, liability, and site conditions, we ask that you do not visit the construction site without approval from a Paragon representative.

As your home nears completion, you’ll receive an estimated 30-day notice. While we strive for timely completion, final inspections and the Certificate of Occupancy are dependent on township inspectors. Once the Certificate of Occupancy is issued, you’ll have seven days to close and take possession of your new home. During this time, you’ll complete a final walk-through with Mike and our agents, learning about your new home and receiving your warranty binder.

This is the perfect time to transfer utilities into your name and ensure the homeowners’ association (HOA) has your updated contact information if your home is part of an HOA community.

Warranty & Buyer’s Agent Collaboration

Paragon Building Company offers a complimentary, comprehensive 1-year builder’s warranty, ensuring any necessary repairs are addressed. A third-party home inspection will be conducted, with findings reviewed to determine which items fall under the builder’s warranty. Repairs may take a few months to schedule and complete. Additionally, we provide a 10-year structural warranty, with details outlined in your warranty binder.

We welcome buyer’s agents and offer a 3% commission on the purchase price (excluding change orders). We encourage you to keep your agent involved and copy them on communications throughout the building process.

Preferred Lenders
For financing, our preferred local lenders are Dart Bank and Mercantile Bank, offering trusted service and competitive options for home buyers.
